Birth Doula Support

Birth Doula Support

Birth doulas are trained, non-medical professionals who provide physical, emotional, and informational support for people before, during, and after childbirth. Birth doulas help those choosing to give birth with or without epidurals.  Research shows that continuous support can improve health outcomes.

Postpartum Doula Support

A postpartum doula provides evidenced-based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, parental bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care. Research shows that families have an easier time with this transition if a good support team is in place.

Structure of Classes

Childbirth classes are taught by Lindsay, a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator.  Pay what you can afford.  They are divided into 3 sections. Together, these three classes will present a well rounded view of birth from pregnancy through the postpartum period. You can choose to take one, two, or all three classes. You can also ask for a personalized class.  (Option 4) Details for each class are listed below.

Class 1 - Understanding Labor, Pain, and Comfort Measures

This class lays the foundation for understanding how labor works and what is going on in your body.  We will address the factors that contribute to pain, and natural mitigation options (medical options are covered in class 2) including: movement, breathing techniques, stimulating your senses, and many more.

Additionally, we will spend time connecting what is happening physiologically to natural relief options so you understand how and why these measures can be beneficial.  I will provide you with tools so you feel prepared going into your birth.

This class is core information, not just for natural birth enthusiasts, but for anyone who will be giving birth.

Class 2 - Birth Wishes, Options and Variations

In this class we go over the many options that you have during childbirth.  Birth preferences may be difficult to articulate while in the throes of labor. Therefore, it’s important to know about all your options and think about what you prefer beforehand.

In this class we will discuss birth preferences and the many options families have, from medical interventions to medical necessities, including epidurals,  inductions, c-sections, and more.

We will also cover what happens when things go unexpectedly and what options exist.

Class 3 - Postpartum and Newborn Care

Preparing for the postpartum period is often overlooked. This time is very exciting and can also be difficult for many.  Therefore, it is important to be prepared for the road ahead, whether that involves understanding biologically normal newborn behavior, recognizing the signs and symptoms of postpartum depression, or knowing what resources are available for postpartum support, just to name a few.

Option 4 – Personalized Class

Maybe you are planning a cesarean or you are particularly anxious about childbirth.  Perhaps you are going to attempt a vaginal birth after a cesarean.  Or you just want specific information about a certain topic.  This option gives you the chance to let us know what you want to learn about the most.
