Frequently Asked Questions
What are your credentials?
Lindsay, the class instructor, has training through Lamaze International and is a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator. She has also completed training through Birth Behind Bars and is a CAPPA Certified Labor Doula.
Our doulas are either certified or working on certification through DONA or CAPPA.
I would like to donate, how will the funds be used?
We very much appreciate your support! Donations will be used towards providing childbirth education and doula services for families in need. Donations may also be used for nonprofit operating costs and covering the cost of training for aspiring birth workers. Transformed Birth Services, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 organization as designated by the Internal Revenue Service. Our Federal EIN is 92-1565887.
I am planning on getting an epidural. Would I still benefit from taking a class/classes?
Absolutely! You may want to labor for as long as possible before getting the epidural. Or you may not be able to get it right away. It is also possible that the relief will not be as effective as you had hoped. It is our goal to equip you with an abundance of coping mechanisms that can also be used in every day life.
Do you give medical advice?
No. Transformed Birth Services does not provide substitutes for medical care. We can help to clarify different inputs from doctors, midwives, doulas and other opinion givers. With this clarity, we can help you figure out the decisions that are right for you.
When is the best time for me to take a class?
We like to leave that up to you. Some prefer to start early in their pregnancy, some come to me near the end. We are happy to support you at whatever time works best for you. We recommend that you schedule classes to be finished before 37 weeks of pregnancy.
What about my partner?
We welcome partners in class and work with them during the birth and postpartum times. Our goal is to benefit each person and have partners be involved as much as they would like to be. We hope to help partners gain confidence so that they will feel empowered to support their laboring partner.
How do you support diversity?
Transformed Birth Services offer safe spaces. We can all learn from each other’s unique life experiences. We are happy to support ALL people. Racism, homophobia, religious discrimination, or any kind of supremacy will not be tolerated in class or in any other way. We also understand that black women face a disparity in care. We are sensitive to this and are actively working to be a part of the solution.
How do you handle controversial topics?
We understand that the decisions that must be made during this time are layered and multifaceted. We will not persuade you to make a certain decision. It is our job to provide information and resources and to support you in whatever decisions you make.
